The Client
This government department manages many places of tourist attraction and has many offices in each city and state. The department wanted an easy but effective solution that can not only automate its tourist's booking, reporting and analysis activities but also bring transparency in the overall process.

The Challenges
The tourist places are the highest revenue generating machines for this department. Since past many years, the department used a manual booking and reporting system which not only resulted in data tampering and losses but also resulted in low customer satisfaction. The tedious and slow manual booking system, wasted time of employees and tourists alike. This delayed reporting and analysis and also resulted in frustration in the employees.

To get rid of this, the department initially decided to start computerization of only one place and view the outcome. Hence the search for an IT software solutions partner started and in the year 2005, the officers at the first place selected Prazact Technologies for the development, implementation and maintenance of the first booking solution.

Prazact’s Booking Solution
Initially, Prazact Technologies followed on-site development model for most of the modules since the booking process involved years of complexity and diverse calculation methods. The employees had no awareness in the field of IT and so they were helpless at times to explain what they actually wanted. Hence, the team of Prazact Technologies took the initiative and delved deeper into the client’s business process and there by discussed the strategy with employees with simple prototypes.

The first test version of the booking solution was installed in a peak period of three months. Later, the final version was deployed and the solution was used for a complete year. This dramatically increased the revenue because of transparency in overall operations. After the big success of the first version of the booking solution, the department decided to automate most of the popular tourist places with the second version of this solution.

The second version of the booking solution was written entirely from scratch because the way of booking changed entirely. The department’s booking process is ever-changing and rapidly modified according to new plans. There was no way to upgrade the previous version. New services were planned for the tourists and to deal with the ever-increasing pressure, a very scalable and stable solution was needed. In the meantime, Microsoft’s .NET technology became a huge success. Not only it facilitated xcopy deployment and side-by-side execution, but also gave freedom from DLL Hell. The applications written in .NET were stable and easy to manage. Microsoft’s .NET technology also offered new improved data access technologies. Considering the overall need of technology and demand, the second version was written entirely on .NET technology.

The second version was a huge success and set a new record in the overall revenue of the tourist places. The key features of this version are:

  • Very scalable. New services can be easily added and the system can be extended to any number of machines.

  • Very user-friendly. The booking windows are designed in such a way to enable fast booking at peak times and also well-documented. Even novice operators can work easily.

  • Multi-threaded status alerts. Due to the application’s critical role, an operator can easily report updated booking figures at any time.

  • Easy reporting. Day-reports can be generated on a click of a button.

  • Custom Reporting. Data from all places can be merged in a centralized database and reports can be generated on the basis of user criteria.

  • Well-documented tickets. Tickets are well documented so that a visitor can get any type of information in first view.
